the events that might have switched your mind into depression? My counselor was asking me this today, and I honestly have no idea so I was wondering if any of you do.

Looking back, my depression either followed or coincided with an extended period of sleep turbulence and insomnia. Those two walk together to this day despite medications.

Some events have, yes. But I think depression can occur even without events triggering it off.

I always had one issue or another but my most severe depression was triggered by the birth of my son and my subsequet divorce.

But I agree, depression does not need an event to trigger it!

It doesn't seem like anything triggers my moods, but sometimes others (like my T or a friend) can point it out for me when i just can't feel a connection or trigger for myself.

Sometimes I have an event that triggers it. But other times it seems more like a slow descent that doesn't have a distinct beginning. Usually the triggering events have a lot to do with stress and the subsequently not being able to sleep.

Some episodes had definite triggers, others not.

the past one was a large mix of things for me - combination of delayed grieving, never learning life skills during childhood because my mother was WAY overly controlling and still is but to a lesser degree, some very close friends refused to talk to me anymore, and I didn't know how to express the feelings coming from the that *especially from the delayed grieving* and bottled it all up inside.

That's basically it, I'm not saying that's all but ya =)
