I am not sure where to post this, but I was wondering. My T has diagnosed me with mild depression, due to an abusive childhood. I was surprised when my T said that the insurance co wants to know why I wasn't on anti depressants for the depression. And needs for my T to get back to them. Since my T is not a dr. I need to go see my primary doc. and discuss it. My T supports me if I don't want to take it, but says that it may help me deal with some of the issues that I am dealing with for the first time. It is up to me, I am concerned that if I don't that my insurance will drop me and I can't afford to pay on my own and my T does not do a sliding scale. It has taken me so long to finally get some help in dealing with my life's issues that I don't want to lose what I have now with my T. I have made an appt. with my prinary dr. to discuss this. It seems odd that the insurance co can dicatate meds I need. Does anyone have any insight with this? Overall I am doing well and learning to deal with my issues and I feel I have made significant gains.

The insurance company would prefer for you to take a pill because it's cheaper for them than therapy. Plain as that.

Not to mention that the Insurance Co's often times can get kick-backs from Big Pharma if they are pro-meds!!!

It is up to you....I really don't believe they can drop you if you decline medication....but they may try and get out of paying by saying you are refusing treatment.....maybe...but, if this comes up you could ask for an appeal. I hate all the Insurance BS!!!! It's a PITA!!!!

Good luck to you!!!
