Sometimes when I'm depressed I drink Caffeine. It helps me to feel better. Depression = downer, Caffeine = upper. Makes sense no?

Does Caffeine really help with depression though?

I mean obviously its better than abusing alcohol (which is a downer and will only make you feel more crappy), but does it **** up your moods? Well, obviously your moods will already be ****ed up if you're depressed so does it matter? lol.

What say you about using Caffeine to ease depression?

A lot of research has been done on the effect of caffeine. Do a search of "research caffeine depression" and see what you come up with.

Already tried googling it. That's why I'm asking here!

Yes it acutally has the reverse effect on me when I drink a cup of coffee in the middle of the night, it relaxes me and strangely I can sleep. I also notice a brightening of mood........very perculiar indeed.

if it works for you, then why not?

my pdoc asks me not to drink more than 4-6 cups of coffee/caffeinated tea each day. he knows it's probably the only thing that will get me out of bed on some days, so he's happy i've found something that works.

but caffeine is also linked to anxiety, and a lot of ppl with depression have anxiety issues also - so it's something to bear in mind if that is a problem for you.

I drank pots of coffee when I was at the worst of my depression and it made no difference whatsoever. Fortunately caffeine doesn't affect me and I now only have 2 to 3 cups of coffee a day.

I too would notice a change in mood / general feeling with coffee.
Sometimes I'd have to be careful with it because too much is also not good - for anyone really. But it seemed just a cup of coffee or an espresso drink (I got an espresso machine as a present) will help alot. And not just for waking up either - as I said, it does seem to increase mood =P

I think it helps ease the symptoms of depression for some people.

I think getting addicted can make things worse, so you should be careful (as with any drug... yes... caffeine=drug)

so I'd do what feels best for you
