All I want to do is curl up in a little ball and sleep.

But I AM NOT going to do it!!!

Today is my grandma's 85th birthday and I AM going to take her to a movie and I AM going to sit with the family while she opens her presents!!!

Depression be DAMNED!!!!!

Good for you!!! - that's right you need to push yourself and stand up to the depression. You certainly don't want to miss your Grandmother's birthday. Did you know that regular exercise can have a dramatic affect on depression? Also forcing yourself like you are right now help tremendously. I saw a segment on Good Morning America and this doctor did a study on a group of depressed people and told them for 2 months they had to push themselves to ACT happy even if they didn't feel like it. He did before and after brain scans. Amazingly the brain scans showed a difference - which proves how we act can alter our brain chemistry! Of course this probably wouldn't work for serious depressions like bipolar etc - but it certainly wouldn't hurt. The same way we get stuck in negative thinking we can get stuck in training our brains to think positive. When we're stressed our bodies release stress hormones that affect our bodies including our brains. The same is true when we're happy our bodies release postive hormones that affect our brains. When we cuddle a baby or feel love oxytocin is released - when we exercise endorphins are released which stimulate new neuro-transmitters in our brains. Think how you feel a spurt of energy when you do a big belly laugh??
CONGRATULATIONS for standing up and rebelling against your depression. You know why your dear Grandmother is alive at 85 - it's because she's a strong, resiliant woman - I bet she has alot to teach you. Enjoy her birthday and have FUN sweetie. Oh and say Happy Birthday to your Grandma for me!!

Well I did it. I don't know if I did it well, but I did it. I took Grandma to a movie and sat with the family while she opened her presents.

Now I just have to get through dinner and then I finished my goal.

I'm exhausted and drained and anxious and depressed, but a little bit proud of myself for not wussing out of it by saying i was too depressed.

And I told Grandma that all my online friends said Happy Birthday!!!
(which i don't think she really understood, but she smiled anyway)

Thank you, you guys!!!!!!!
