Daynnight, please forgive me for not posting earlier. I read your poem-post several times, looked at your profile page and read a few of your other poems, and returned here to stare at your poem again. Lacking confidence in being able to reply without triggering you, I decided to let others post first. I was hoping they would have a longer history with you; from their posts I might be able to discern what words you needed.
No, none of the above serves as an excuse, but that's what I was actually doing and thinking. Two things:

My dog  mastered the "fetch" command. He would communicate he wanted something, and I would fetch it.
