One of my daughters suffers from dysthymia, a pervasive form of mild depression. She is unsmiling and morose for most of the day. She only expresses emotion when she is with her freinds and even then she tends to be quiet and reserved.

I'm sorry.. Has a therapist explored the reasons why. I would definately see if both through talking with her and through therapy the reason why she is so depressed. Its a red flag! She is in my prayers. Give her lots of love, hugs, and attention. I was extremely depressed as a child, but my mom never talked to me about it. I definately wish someone would have helped me talk through what what happening inside. Definately a third party, therapist, would be good at helping her open up if possible. Best of luck.

Thanks everyone. I have a slight phobia of therapists. Childhood depression / dysthymia There are so many in my area that they seem to have devolved into businesses. Oh well. My girl has been helped with a daily regimen of Prozac even though it is contraindicated in youngsters. It works for my loved ones and I’ll continue to use it while it helps raise their low moments.

Do you have a pastor or someone your daughter can talk to. I think it would really help her to be able to find somoene who could listen.
Best of luck
