I've been summoned for jury duty. There are several ways to get out of it, including permanent mental disability. You have to have a written statement from your psychiatrist.

I plan to ask her to write one.

I honestly don’t' believe I could handle it. But maybe I am just being
being lazy and trying to weasel out of my responsibility as a citizen?

Am I ?

(((Berries)))
You know how you feel more than we do.
My guess is you're not in good enough shape now to commit to such a thing.
Tell your psychiatrist the situation like you plan on doing and don't feel guilty or think that you are lazy or a weasel.
Good luck Berries . Take care

Huh-Uh. You're doing the right thing. It would be too stressful for you to be deciding someone else's guilt or innocence and/or deciding their possible life-time fate. I think you should get out of this if you can. I'm sure your pdoc will write you an excuse. You're going through too much right now. It wouldn't even be fair to the person on trial. You are being wise, not lazy.
Thanks for this!

I agree what people have written... I would like to add if you think you cannot do something reight, then you should not mess it up. And jury duty, it is quite a responsibility. It is good of you tobe honest with yourself and you have proved yourself a better citizen since you declined something you refused to a load you could not carry!

You're not lazy or irresponsible at all dear Berries. You're just being truthful. Personally I don't even know anyone who'd enjoy being called for jury duty. I sure wouldn't but guess I'd have to go if I didn't have a choice. You have a legitimate reason not to attend and nobody would fault you for it. That's why thy have a lot more initially called than are even required because sometimes people just can't and the computers that pick them don't know anything but numbers.

As Rebecca said, take care of Berries first and everyone else has the right idea too.

I discovered (because I had no memory of it from ECT) that I was called to jury duty a few years ago. I saw this when I was looking through my old posts! Apparently my therapist was able to write a letter to allow me to not have to go. I don't even know if I was on official disability yet or not. I know I would have had a horrible time with it, I would have been triggered, no matter what the case was, and would not be able to make good decisions. You are not alone in not being able to serve, that is why they allow people to abstain if they are deemed unable.
You're still a good person!!!!
Take care, and HUGS!

As for myself, I would find it fascinating to be on a jury again (I served once before). It was one of the most interesting experiences ever.

That's me. You have to do what is right for you.
