I just burnt the kitchen surface in my rented house by putting a red-hot sauce-pan on top of it. It caused blisters in the fake black-marble surface that broke off to reveal the plaster board beneath.

The whole surface and walls are covered in this same surface. Oh dear. I've already reported it to my land-lady who says she'll take a look some time. I'm sure she won't want to charge me to have the whole lot redone, but I have seriously damaged the appearance of the kitchen, and I'm sure she won't be too pleased with how it looks now. No obvious way to repair the damage done either, although I may try applying a dab of black paint.

The reason the saucepan was so hot was that I have left it to start burn. The reason I had left it was because I was trying to mend a small torch, not wanting to have to buy a replacement one. My effort to save money could end up costing me a lot lot more.

Underlying my inattentiveness was a pretty bad spell of mental exhaustion that I've been experiencing most of this afternoon. It isn't really depression as such, but doesn't feel great.

What is there to take from silly unfortunate life events like this? I really don't know.

I try not to indulge in self-hate and self-reproach because I tell everyone else not to. It doesn't help. There is too much anger and hate in this world, and anger and hate directed at oneself is one of the very WORST forms of it.

I must be humble, and patient, and accepting, and forgive myself as I would wish to be able to forgive others.....
Thanks for this!

Well, I've put in an order for a black marble kitchen board to cover it with. I'm hoping that my landlady with be VERY forgiving and allow this to substitue for a full replacement which is something I don't even want to think about right now.

Thank you all for your kindness and sympathy.

This site is so great.
