Hi all, hope all is well. Is your depression genetic? Or is it a culmination of unfortunate events and circumstances throughout your life? My BP is genetic,(Mother had it), my anxiety has it's roots from my early childhood. Just curious, Good health and joy to you!

My depression is genetic - passed down from dear old dad. It is often excerbated by life circumstances.
Thanks for this!

I have no idea if my depression is genetic, but by all accounts I have had a trauma free, normal life, so maybe it is genetis.
Thanks for this!

My mood & anxiety disorders are genetic. My Borderline Personality Disorder is probably due to a combo of genetics and an event that occured during my childhood.
Thanks for this!

Hello mrhomercat,

The depression I have is genetic. My mum has it, and though my dad had it before he died it was because he was dying and knew it, before that he was not depressed at all

Hi, Mrhomercat!

Summary: Although I can speculate about a genetic susceptibility to depression, in my case I can fairly clearly point to environmental causes for my depression, including prolonged circadian and occupational stresses as well as the silent onset of an autoimmune condition (“pernicious anemia”).
