Is anyone like me? Im in my 40s, Been going to doctors therapist, taking different meds on and off since I was 16. nothing really ever helped for long. see shadow people, Sometimes hear voices, Has just really given up on what everyone thinks as normal should be, Feel that Ill just deal with it, Sometimes to make myself feel better, I say to myself im gifted, Maybe I am, Maybe its ghosts I hear and see. Can Deppresion cause you to see and hear things I wonder? Im thinking as old as I am, I should give up on the idea of normal. I am able to hide the strange part of me. Im a great father and husband I think. What does it really matter how I feel inside as long as I can continue to pass off as normal? Hmmm

We are similar in the sense of seeing shadow people and sometimes hearing voices. I am diagnosed as Borderline Personality Disorder & Mood Disorder NOS (which I suspect is Depression). My doc says my hallucinations could be a result of either those two illnesses, or my epilepsy which I have.

Sometimes I have micropsychotic episodes, which are psychotic episodes which last a short time, from hours to days...usually not exceeding a week.

And it definitely matters what you feel inside, EVEN if others can't tell that you are struggling. Getting help for what's going on inside as well as outside is so important to our well-being.

Hi Middman,

When I read your post it made me think about a section I read in the book, Healing Anxiety and Depression, by Daniel G. Amen, M.D. I don't know if this applies to you, but I thought I would share it. It is found on page 71.

Type 6: Temporal Lobe Anxiety/Depression

"Temporal Lobe Anxiety/Depression results from too much or too little activity in the brain's temporal lobes, in addition to too much activity in the basal ganglia and/or deep limbic system. The temporal lobes are very important to memory, moods, and emotions. When there are problems in this part of the brain, people struggle with temper outbursts, memory problems, mood instability, visual or auditory illusions, and dark frightening, or evil thoughts. People with this type tend to misinterpret comments as negative when they are not, have trouble reading social situations, and appear to have mild paranoia."

"SPECT findings in Type 6 patients show increased or decreased activity in the temporal lobes and increased basal ganglia and/or deep limbic activity at rest and during concentration. When the temporal lobes become less active with concentration, people often struggle with learning problems. When they are less active on the left side there is a tendency toward reading problems and irritability; when they are less active on the right side there is a tendency to have trouble reading social situations. It is possible to have decreased activity on both sides."

I hope you will be able to find some relief of your symptoms soon!

Sincerely,
Caramel

I think there might be a psychotic aspect to your depression. That's my guess.
