I just became a member of Psych Central yesterday and appreciate the advice that I recieved toward my situation. Usually work is my escape from everything thats wrong at home. When I'm at work, I'm usually so busy I don't have time to think of anything else. Last night though, my chest started feeling tight and heavy and when I would try to take a deep breath it was very painful. Do you think this is caused by all the stress I've been dealing with? Needless to say, I did'nt go into work today because of the same sensation. I can't afford to miss days at work for financial reasons but also mental reasons. I want to go see my family doctor but really don't have the money for even the co-pay. A few years ago, my old doc put me on Ativan for anxiety attacks but I haven't needed anything like that for along time. I really just don't know what to do, but I know I don't like what my body is trying to tell me. I don't know what to to do stop and make this discomfort go away.

Med costs can be prohibitive, so i sympathize with you. Also, what you are experiencing may be a result of anxiety or stress. I'm not sure which one it is though.

Hi breakdown girl,

I'm sorry to hear you have been feeling so stressed lately. Is it due to things at home? Because of the physical symptoms you are having, I would urge you to go see a doctor. Sometimes you can find a walk-in health clinic that costs less. Severe anxiety (I know from experience as well) can make you feel horrible. But you want to rule out any other problems too. Sending you good wishes your way. Hope you find some help and comfort here at PC. Let us know how you are feeling.

Hello breakdowngirl

Sounds like it could be stress and or anxiety. You could try breathing exercises to slow the breathing down and regulate the rise and fall of the chest and ribs. I really hope you can find relief. It's bad for you that you can't afford the co-payment. Is there a community program that can get you a number of visits to a psych?

I really hope that you can get some help and feel better soon, I really do feel for you

I agree with the others about visiting a doc. You can check at work if there is any Work assistance plan , cause sometimes the employer wants to help with the psy issues and it can give you access to services. You must make you the priority.
