I was in a psychiatric unit for a couple of days due to a trip to the ER with thoughts of suicide. I have major panic attacks and found that I am hyper sensitive at times. I have had depression and anxiety since i was a teenager. i am home now with new meds. Effexor, Aderall, Xanax xr and klonopin. I had a day of basic euphoria the day i got out which was friday but since i have been stuck on the couch with the same thoughts i had previously. I am wondering if anyone else is taking these meds and know how long they take to work. I do not want to lose my job. i have been out a week already. I dont have the energy to do anything. For some reason i thought my mood would be fixed but im wondering if they discharged me too early. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm really not in a space to offer any suggestions, but I hate seeing people post and not getting any response.
It takes a while for meds to "kick in" so you're not likely to feel better right away. Hopefully, in addition to the meds, you also have a therapist to do some talk therapy with. If not, try to get one. If you were hospitalized, a short hospital stay is not going to make everything suddenly okay. You need some longer term support. If you don't have a therapist to talk to, try venting here until you can get one. I feel like I've been a bit of a nuisance posting here since I discovered the place, but it does help me a little. Take care of yourself.

Was your pdoc a part of the med change? Otherwise give him a call and see what he can help with.
A T is useful in these situations too - you can discuss your thoughts with your T, and they can teach you coping mechanisms. I hope this depression lifts soon for you

It can take a few weeks for new meds to kick in. But if you're back to feeling suicidal, a call to your pdoc or t might be helpful. I was told by one of my old t's that it's normal to take a dip after getting discharged from the hospital. I know I always do.
I hope you feel better soon. ![]() ![]() |

Please keep in mind that you are in most danger of harming yourself when you are recovering from a depressive episode, as in, climbing up the ladder.
Hope that helps. |
