I am just joining this group due to a history of depression due to a chemical imbalance. Anti-depressants have made the depression more tolerable, helping significantly. I find that even with psychotherapy services and putting them into practice, I still struggle with depression. I have dealt with depression as long as I can remember, beginning in elementary school.

I have just begun neurofeedback to help with anxiety and depression (anxiety has been present since I was little along with the depression). I did stop taking medications too soon. I know neurofeedback is supposed to help with depression, I guess I got a little too eager to get off the meds. Therefore, this time, the depression is very intense. I've been on an anti-depressant (and anti-anxiety) for 10 years. Just stopping the medication is not a good idea.

I started neurofeedback back in Dec of this past year. That has helped a lot with anxiety. They are working on depression now, which is what is the most difficult to deal with at this time.

Who is helping you? If you have a genetic predisposition to depression, you may need long-term (lifetime?) antidepressant therapy, in addition to the neuro feedback.

Hope you feel better soon--and get the right supportive therapy to assist you!
