I have been depressed for as long as I can remember, even as a child. I used to feel so sad and angry and was a really stressed out serious child. Some of my adult family members used to tease me and say "Oh look, shes mad again and now she is going to cry!" And I did not understand what exactly I felt and why. I felt so alone.

Hey,

I finally started really looking at getting my depression dealt with last year when it got really bad, but looking back now, I realize I've had depressive episodes going way back to my teen years. My mom used to make the same sort of teasing remarks to me as well.

You are not alone here, sosasap.

My family never understood me either, never even tried. I was always ridiculed or snubbed if I ever tried to talk about "feelings".

You're definitely not alone, that's for sure.

Have you thought about talking with your doctor? There's no reason for you to continue suffering if you can get some help. I wouldn't want to jump into medication if it's not needed, but if it is it can make a HUGE difference in your life. Your doctor should be able to help you determine what might work best for you.

(((((Sosasap))))))) I can relate. I've had depression since childhood. I was one of those very serious kids. I'd get ignored at the dinner table, run off crying, and my parents and brother would say, "There goes Sarah Heartburn" (play on Sarah Burnhart, a melodramatic actress from the silent film era). Not too sensitive. But, my family was the source of the problem. It made it especially confusing because there was love in other times, in other ways. It can mess with one's sense of what's real, what's legitimate, in one's perceptions and feelings. Best wishes to you.
