Does anyone have experience in this area? After 15 years a sleep study will be repeated. I am so hopeful that my depression can be attributed to a sleep disorder. I am new to this awful illness but am sure I feel no worse than others who have been cursed with this crap!

My husband has really severe sleep apnea--one of the worst cases ever in the sleep clinics here, but he has no depression. I'm not sure it is related. You can be very tired from not getting good sleep, but it's not necessarily connected to depression. Might be separate ills. Are you sure you are depressed? Or is the doc trying to rule out simple exhaustion from the lack of motivation in depression?

Hello & Welcome, Whatisnext! In my case, Primary Insomnia (without sleep apnea) was diagnosed before Depression. Poor or disturbed sleep can certainly contribute to conditions favorable to the emergence of depression.
Even though Sleep Apnea will be the focus of the study, I recommend you talk to the doctor interpreting your test and ask about your whole "sleep architecture," the cycles of non-REM and REM sleep. That also may have something to reveal about the nature and quality of your sleep.

I have several sleep orders, including central sleep apnea, which can't be treated. I know that lack of sleep definitely makes my depression worse, but I don't think it's the primary cause, at least for me.
