boyfriends mom is a mild hoarder, she has lots of stuff. today was the first of several yard sales we are supposed to have to help get rid of the clutter. it was a total flop. did everything right, ad in the newspaper, huge sign i painted and put in front of our trailer park, rented large tables, everything. weather channel said it was supposed to be mid to upper 80s today but it got 10 degrees warmer, sending the temp to almost 100 degrees, which we think is why we didn't get many customers. it was a complete flop, we had like 5 people buy stuff, and it was just the cheap 25 cents or 10 cents stuff. we had been working on this sale for weeks trying to get his mom to let go of items and organize it for the sale, then pricing everything, woke up at 5:30am to start putting everything outside by 8am.. life sucks right now, and i am depressed as ever. if this is the first sale of many, how will the others be. i dont want to do this ever again. boyfriend is also feeling depressed. i hate that his mom has so much stuff and cant take care of it or herself. all this work for her, and she didnt even thank us. this sucks. so depressed right now

When I have yard sales, I try to group price items - like short sleeve shirts, shorts = 1$, long sleeve shirts, pants = 2$. Saves a lot in prep time instead of individually pricing items. Also, I encourage buying extra - like books 0.50$ each or 3/1$. Another useful thing I've found is encouraging neighbors to have yard sales the same weekend - then you can advertise as multi-family sale, which encourages more deal hunters. Also, my son usually sets up a lemonade stand on the hot days and I usually keep a cooler full of soda, bottled water to sell. And if a family with kids arrives - I give them free lemonade or let them pick out a children's book for free because cranky kids mean parents don't have time to look around and if you keep the kids happy, parents appreciate it and are more inclined to shop more. Finally, the last day of the sale, I have everything 50% off. If your goal is to get rid of things, this usually clears out a lot of the leftovers. Hope these ideas help!
