Hi again... I'm just about worried and stuff right now because I've got a lot of college work due in on Friday and I've done nothing even though I've had weeks to do it. Every time I try to do it I just start getting annoyed and agitated.
The fact that I'm so fustrated and stressed about lots of other things at the moment as well isn't helping. I'm feeling so down right now because of it all. Especially the fact that I've got the doctors again tomorrow as well to talk about my whole depression situation. I'm so nervous about it and thats all I can think about right now. I can't concentrate for long enough to do it and I'm scared because I don't want to get into trouble. When I try and do my research though and try and read the information I zone out and I start scanning the text and not really reading it. Then I get even more fustrated and angry with myself and then I find it even hard to concentrate. I'm scared and I don't know what to do ![]() After these last couple of weeks I'm completely done with college work for good. I keep telling myself this though and it's not working. I just don't seem to care. I don't want to fail. |

Get a note from the docs to take to your profs and see if you can get an incomplete and finish the work over the summer. If it's papers, that's easier than exams. See what they will do for you. Try to do one thing, if you can, so it's not all heaped up undone. Good luck to you tomorrow--it will be easier than you think. Once you get started, it will be easier than anticipating your fear about it.

I totally understand i've been getting like that in revision and then in actual exams. My counceller told me this breathing thing that's supposed to calm you down and make you less stressed which made things a bit easier. It was seven-eleven breathing. Breathing in for seven seconds then out for eleven so your letting air out for longer it's supposed to slow your heart a bit and calm you down. Its helped me quite a bit when I get stressed about the work so maybe it will help you too? Plus, about above post, I thought that wouldn't work either but my teacher was really understanding about my coursework so I got a bit more time. Hugs to you. Jess.

I really struggle with motivation myself. Really struggle. One thing that helps me a little is to set the timer for 10 minutes and just do something, anything. On bad days sometimes I lie around and set the timer for the top of the hour. At the top of the hour I function for 2 minutes and go back to bed. It gives me a small feeling of accomplishment and breaks the inertia. Baby steps are key for me.
I think it's a GREAT idea to get a note from the doc. 15 minute slots won't get a semester's worth of work done in 2 days, but it might get it done through the summer. I feel for you.

I’m also in college and am going through the same thing right now.
Have you tried doing things in increments? Like if you have assigned reading of 30 pages break it down to where you read a certain number of pages then allow yourself a break then go back to reading after a few minutes. During your break you can have some type of reward which could motivate you to read again in order to reward yourself again. Breaking stuff down in increments has helped me a lot especially with writing papers. It definitely makes schoolwork less overwhelming. Also if you have any sources that can become distractions such as music players put them out of grasp and finding a quiet place to study, like a library, is always good too. Good luck with everything!
