has been setting me up. the guys told me about it yesterday. she is in Dallas, Christmas shopping. their theory is that 1. i'm older than she. 2. she's jealous of the rapport that i have with the guys and the customers. this is very depressing. i've never had a boss that acts like she does. i start getting a queasy feeling when i go to work. and i'm always waiting for the other shoe to fall. it is causing me to lose even more sleep.
i do have more customers than the others, but it's only because i'm a colorist and have no problem voicing my opinion when a customer asks me a question. i don't hem-haw around and let them leave with something that doesn't make the work pop. and i'm friendly. there are 7 working there and i get along fine with 6 of them. in fact, more than fine. we even see each other outside of work. they kid with me all of the time and do special little jobs for me when i'm getting a huge job load. i want to stay until after Christmas...so i won't leave them in the lurch....how do i handle this young woman? the guys think that i shouldn't "handle" it. their advice is to just nod or go "hmmmmmm" and go on about my business. they say i'm too polite to her. and that always gives her a window of opportunity to stay after me. walking off sounds good, but miss manners might slap me. help!! |

How is she setting you up?
I tend to agree with "the guys" on this one. If she's really setting you up, then your reaction is exactly what she's after. If you can deny her that, why not? (Unless, of course, it will result in you losing your job or being punished by her in some way.) |

Pat, If she's just the manager of the establishment then kill the nitwit with kindness.
If she's the owner of it then definetly start now in trying to find a new job. It's not worth staying there. She'll never give you the raises or recognition you deserve. It sounds to me you're a great worker that any SMART boss would love to have on their staff. Work for someone who's going to appreciate your hard work, ability to play well with others and ability to make customers happy. ((((((((((Pat)))))))))))))) |

setting me up: my work tickets disappear. stuff that i'm working on suddenly comes up missing. frames are gone. today all that i did was work and never look up and just waited on customers and did my orders. she buzzed around me, but i never replied. i just said mmmmmmmmmm or hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm or "i don't know".........it did seem to get her goat. i've started hiding work that isn't finished. and i found a new shelf to put my yellow slip work on (due immediately)...i'll get around her, one way or the other. dale comes to see me all the time and she wants a date. i won't even introduce them. he'd kill me anyway. i talked to the store manager today and he said he was very aware of what she has been doing. i told him that i had yelled at her and that now i was ignoring her. he told me to do whatever i felt that i needed to do to do my work and be happy. he said that she is not a good supervisor. so i asked him why didn't he get a good one????? and he laughed.

Just keep on working and treat her like she's you're best friend! Do keep your work where it's "secure". I wouldn't say another word to the store manager, though...you just never know which way those balls will bounce. Good luck, keep smilin'!
