I took a good long drive the other day and I'd like to mention an experience I had with the old bill, which turned out quite unexpected.
It was about 3 in the morning, I'd had sleepless, and horrible nights for the past few days so I decided to drive out to a spot I know near a motorway, then go for a nice long walk around the area. After about an hour of wandering I went down the verge to a spot, about 10 ft away from the motorway and had a good lie down while I closed my eyes and felt the traffic rumbling past me. It was oddly therapeutic, although I wouldn't advise it for safety reasons.. Next thing I knew I had two Police officers leaning over me with a torch in my face.. I must have been a while as it was hitting 5 or 6 in the morning at that point. They said they'd had a report of an abandoned car (which was where mine was parked, and wanted to know if it was mine..) Obviously I told them it was mine, and as I got up to leave, as I was technically trespassing by being there, one of them sat me back down. At this moment, like a lot of other people would be, I was thinking "Oh crap, here we go.." The other officer wandered away, and the Officer there sat down next to me, pulling out a cigarette, and offering me one, which i gladly accepted, as I'm a smoker myself. At this point, i was convinced I was being trapped or tricked into saying something stupid.. As the minutes went by in silence, both myself and the police officer sat there in silence, each taking a drag off the cigarette we each had, until he turned to me with a huge smile and said "Nice down here isn't it ?" I was honestly lost for words, the previous Officers I had dealt with have always been, well, not very nice.. 5 cigarettes later, and a lot of talking, they gave me a lift back to my car, in their police car, and gave me his shoulder number If I ever wanted to talk again. No tricks, no fee's, nothing.. Two of the most polite, professional and HUMAN police officers I have ever come across, they are a credit to the job they do. Bloody good on them, I couldn't do their job, its a thankless and horrible job, having to deal with the lowest forms of life on the earth most of the time, who show them no respect. Working stupid and backwards shifts, so that everyone else who has a day job can sleep easy. Toughest ******* on the planet.. I thought I should share this experience with you, as It has honestly made me think, that maybe sometimes, life isn't quite as bad as it seems.. and people who care, come from the most unexpected places. Wasnt that something, ACQPL? Life & people, when you think you've got'em figured out, pull something like this.
One of the reasons I guess that I'm around for another day, just in case. Thanks for reminding me.
