I just finished a semester at university and as soon as I have free time I get depressed. I hate this. I don't know what to do. I go swimming for exercise and still review some of my school work to keep myself busy, but as soon as I don't have anything to do I feel terrible. I don't have a job, but I'm starting a new one in 2 weeks, so at least that will keep me a little busy. I just don't know what to do with myself. I'm not interested in doing anything. I like to go out and go shopping, but I don't have any money. I want to hang out with this guy I am dating, but I don't want to be calling him everyday asking him to hang out. I'm scared of seeming needy. But I'm so bored and it makes me so depressed. I have no interest in anything right now. I don't even want to see my friends. What can I do?

Aha! So you think your rational mind ought to control your heart?

I spent years of therapy on this subject. The heart is happier (and you will be too) without the rational mind bossing it around.

SPECULATION

Trying to control your own feelings may be the root of most depression.
