How do you handle taking care of a pet when you are feeling low and down.

I am at work now and literally counting down the minutes until I can go home and put my pjs on and climb into bed.

The thing is, I have my dog. He will need a walk and it's something that I haven't been doing too much of lately. I'm such a bad mom, I feel, sometimes. How do you handle taking care of a precious, helpless animal when you can't even take care of myself. It's not fair.

I mean, don't get me wrong, he gets fed, and I take him out every time he needs to go out. But I don't play with him like I should or walk him after work (long) like he deserves. I usually want to just snuggle with him, but I have to remember he's not my personal stuffed animal. He is a dog, and he doesn't want stuff like that. I just want to be the best mom I can be - to him.

Do you have any responsible kids in your neighborhood would love to take your dog for a long walk - you could even pay the older child a certain amount per week. You can play fetch even if you're laying down too. I'm sorry you're depressed and not feeling motivated. I love your username and showed to my daughter the other day - we chuckled. Hopefully you can muster up a walk since its also good for you too.

That's a good suggestion. I actually just moved into a new apartment complex and although I wave to the people in the neighborhood (both older adults and younger ones (my age), they don't EVER seem to wave back. Granted, I live in the city, but a nicer neighborhood. I would think they'd want to be friendly. But to answer your question, I don't think there are many kids in the neighborhood. None that I have seen anyhow.

I did make a big effort to walk him about a half mile/mile yesterday before the rain moved in. I think that helped. I'm going to try and do it today. He's such a love. Sometimes I feel he deserves better than me.

You are right, I will try and play fetch inside. Maybe that'll help.
Thx about the name - no idea where it came from, but it seemed fitting! lol
