Hello, I am new to this site and still getting used to it. The reason I'm here is that I don't have anyone in my life who understands this horrible illness. I was recently at rock bottom and I turned to someone I thought was my best friend. She told me that it was my own fault that I was depressed and to basicly "snap out of it". Being in the state I was in,I believed her and it almost pushed me over the edge. I don't know if I can be friends with her anymore and that would leave me with no friends. I was hoping to get to know some of you,not just for the help you can give me but for the opportunity to help others in similar situations as me. I wish you all the best and keep fighting.

<font color="blue">Welcome to psych central mike! I hope you are able to read the many threads on this forum, they will share many of the basics of depression, imo.

Don't give up on your friend too soon, as many ppl want to understand, they just don't have enough information. She probably means well, and is only following the pattern of those around her. Once educated, you'll have a stronger support system.

It will be easier to counter your friend's ideas if you have support for yourself, someone IRL like a T (therapist) who will continually remind you about depression, and how to combat it.

Be sure to bookmark Psych central, and come back often. Tell us more about yourself, especially about what you are doing to overcome this miserable disorder. Depression

It's easy to believe everything is your fault when you are in the middle of a depressive episode. Stop in here when you need to regain a more realistic outlook. I think you'll find this a friendly, supportive place. I agree with Sky about not giving up on your friend. Educate her and seek out other support IRL. The more the better.

OIh, and welcome to the forums!

Welcome, mike! We'd love to get to know you here... and for you to get to know us. Depression is hard, and it drains you so much. I've been where you are. Please know you can post here as much as you need to. And you can always private message me if you need someone to talk to. I'd be more than happy to talk to you.
