Do any of you have any experience of depression improving your life in the long term?

Yes as a matter of fact. I think it may have made me feel more compassionate. I would have preferred to develop that in a different way

I think it's made me stronger, more determined, more sensitive (in a good way), less judgmental. I's also given me a better perspective of self-growth.

It absolutely gets better and makes you a better person in the long run. You are more sensitive and compassionate. It is also easier to help those that are going through what you are going through.

I feel it has definitely made me a better person all around. I definitely have become more compassionate and understanding, and I think it has given me a better perspective on life. And yes, it has given me that ability to help others which in turn helps myself. Finally, I think it has helped me to connect with people on a deeper level. I really can't imagine what I would be like if I had never had depression.

I think depression does open your mind, compassion is a great word. I say hello to people I would have ignored before I was diagnosed with depression. Hate to say that but it is true.

It has changed me. In some ways I view it as making me worse, in others better. Depression made me face a lot of things perhaps sooner than I would have otherwise. I have a better relationship with my mother, I am able to handle myself better. But I also feel scarred for life. I will never forget, and part of me always feels like I'm running from a recurrence of it.

It's obviously best if you never get depressed. but I think, as with most experiences, you can grown and learn from it. It's all in your point of view.

I agree with the many other people who said it has made me more compassionate and less judgmental of others. That is a beautiful thing. :-)
Thanks for this!
