Ok, I've been around the block a few times in my short 29 year life, but now I'm feeling a bit different. Just looking for input;

Feelings of:
Hopelessness;
I really did it this time;
comparing myself to others from my childhood; (as far as accomplishments)
Major Mistakes made constantly;
Not advancing in life.

Feelings of loss;
Abandonment;

Just general agitation with my self. I can't really explain it. Sometimes it comes and goes, and sometimes it gets really bad. I dunno if this is just my low side of being bipolar, or maybe I'm not even bipolar. I'm at odds with that DX now. I generally listen to depressing bands (i.e. Snow Patrol) when I feel like this and it actually makes me feel better ??? I dunno. Input appreciated.

Right now, Chandler, I think you're dealing with two different kinds of depression. One is the depressive disorder and the other is a situational depression.

The Depressive Disorder is what we get hospitalized for. There's no "reason" for our being generally in a rock-bottom mood all the time, carrying the world on out shoulders. It's a chemical imbalance in our brains that causes us to perceive things negatively. It can be a part of the bipolar mood swing also. We can learn to deal with this with therapy and we can also try to manage it with prescription drugs.

The Situational Depression hits when we have a reason to feel down-in-the-dumps because something happened, is happening, or is about to happen. in your case, you just got out of the hospital, you have no job, you don't have much money, and your future is uncertain. You're depressed because your situation isn't very cheerful.

Do you see the difference between these two types of depression? In the first, you're depressed for no particular reason. In the second, you're despression for a very specific reason. Right now, my friend, you're dealing with a double dose!

But take heart. Over the next month, you'll begin to focus and make plans & bit by bit things will start to look up. Your job now is to stay in the present & not get ahead of yourself.

Roadie

p.s. Those depressing bands may seem to make you feel better, but it may be like alcohol makes some of us feel better. It seems to work, but then there's a rebound effect & they end up making us feel worse. Have you tried other kinds of music, just as a test? Might be worth a try.

29, huh? Have you considered the possibility that turning 30 might have something to do with it? Maybe you are experiencing a "midlife" evaluation of your life and accomplishments up to this point. It happened to me and it is actually quite common. Just a thought...

I'm actually 28 going on 29. I just call it 29 because this is the new year. Lord help me if I get to experience this "midlife eval" next year. I've already been doing a little bit of it.

I'm 61; I had several periods like that as I got older; age 46, when you realize it's probably more than half over and you haven't figured out what you want to be when you grow up yet, is another good age for feeling bad.
