I was just wondering, if anyone else when there feeling low and confused, sometimes don't feel psychical pain?
I know it's a weird question, but as I fall deeper Into this awful feeling, I react less to pain and also the cold.
But with out sh earlier I banged my finger really hard on work top, my finger is swallowing and very red but yet I hardely felt it! It hurts don't get me wrong but not like it should do, it's the same for si when it happens it don't hurt like it should,
I know prob just being weird, but this is the right place for these sorts of questions right?

I guess I never paid much attention to that. But come to think of it, when I'm in a deep dark place, I'm thinking more of the depression than I am anything else, so I guess it could be true that the pain might not be as intense as when I'm feeling better. I just never really paid attention tho. I'll have to try to notice next time I hurt myself. LOL

It does kinda make sense tho.

Well please don't hurt yourself.. I don't want that to happen but maybe if its cold see if you don't feel it as much as normal.
Please don't do anything silly to try it out.

I have a dulled sense of myself. If I'm uncomfortable or even in pain, it takes me a while to realize it. On the other hand, my pain-tolerance has become extremely erratic. Sometimes something that should cause pain doesn't, or at least it doesn't register much with me (I'm too apathetic to care about the pain?). At other times something minor, such as brushing lightly against a piece of furniture, will register as nearly unbearable pain or startle me greatly.

EDIT: Experiences like these tend to confirm for me that depression has a neurological component.

Actually, yes I can attest to this. I used to work in a coffee shop when I was severely depressed and sometimes I used to burn my hand on the steaming wand from the espresso machine. I never felt anything, and my hand was red. I tend to agree with you Rohag, regarding depression having a neurological component.

I find that when I have a depressive episode, I feel pain but it doesn't bother me as much. Part of me enjoys it because I know that I can still feel something besides emptiness, even though it might be physical. I self harm on occasion and that's definitely one of the reasons.
