Everyone goes through a period of life where they don't want their parents around. Its awkward, because you are trying to find yourself and have privacy and freedom, yet still rely on your parents for support. I don't know why your parents had you later in life. They may have tried earlier and were unable to conceive. They did however, choose to have you, so that tells you something right there. I had my son when I was 31, an average age, but I'm far from a "cool" parent. For one thing, he hasn't lived with me for the past 15 years due to a divorce. When I visit him, health issues make me much less than cool. He runs track and does it in the top level of the high schools in his state. I on the other hand, walk with a cane, and have little energy when I do visit. It wasn't an issue when he was a little kid, but I'm sure he went through a period in his life where I was somewhat of an embarrassment. What is important is the fact that your parents love you. I won't go into the adult issues, I wouldn't have listened to those either as a teen. Even if your parents had you at a younger age, there would still be a generation of difference between you and them. That is a lot. The music is different, the politics are different and so are the ideas on how to raise kids. What you are feeling is natural. My guess is that once you have been out on your own for a while, you will realize how much difference there is between generations. I had a terrible relationship with my parents as a teen. Now I e-mail them almost every day. Once you are doing your own thing and taking care of yourself, your relationship will change. Sam2 |

No, I'm 24 and hate myself for it. I consider myself a failure because I failed and it's too late to make it in this world.

There were times when I strongly didnt like my parents. I wont say hate, thats too strong. Strangely enough, when I began to pull my head out of the darkness it was my parents who were a key step in putting a fresh foot forward. I had to re-evaluate their strengths to find my own. In the past I had mostly looked at their weaknesses.
Its probably pretty hard sharing with your parents considering all the tech advances during the past 25 years, different cultures. I hope there is a little good stuff you can recall though and mix it in with the worse feelings youre having. |

Thanks Alli. Part of it is just frustration from still living with them and me getting off my *** to change my situation.
You're right though about looking at their weaknesses, it's quite easy to do. You are totally right. |
