My 12 year old son has Tourette's, adhd, ocd, odd,mood disorder...... He has threatened a lot recently that he hates his life and doesn't want to live. He wants to kill himself. As a parent that has depression and has said these exact words, I'm not sure if it an attention getter or if he is serious. I'm not sure what to do. Do I just call his psychiatrist and tell him and ask him what to do? I want to take it seriously because those are usually the kids that end up killing themselves- the ones that gave warning and no one listened. We can't afford to go to a hospital. I don't have time or money to see a therapist for myself.
I became a cutter because I was too scared of death to actually kill myself. My son is at an age though where so many things are happening. He hasn't hit puberty yet and doesn't show any sign of it. He started middle school and had no clue how much homework and how hard it would be. He is very negative about his tics and he doesn't have a lot of friends. And his father left him about 4 years ago. (His father and I were divorced when my son was 8 months old, but he just quit showing up for visitations.) He spends time with his father's mother and sister and has started wanting to be with them more. They coddle him and don't discipline, so my husband I are the mean ones that make him do work and take his electronics away. In my own mental state, I'm having a hard time making decisions about what is right and what is wrong and getting to the point where I just don't care anymore. Sorry so long....

I am sorry to hear that you and your son are going through such a hard time. I would definitely suggest talking to his psychiatrist ASAP to get some advice, especially if things have been getting worse.

You shouldn't have to do this on your own and hopefully the doctor can help

Call the psychiatrist now, don't wait. If need to take away anything that he could/would use. Protect him, but also protect yourself. Talk with a friend, but still keep an eye on your son.

This. Any threat of suicide is deadly serious. Do not wait, call your local crisis line if you have to.

My younger brother only mentioned suicide ONCE before he went through with it. Please help your son even though you are at your wits end.

i agree with everyone. Call the psychiatrist immediately. Inform the psychiatrist too of your own exhaustion and difficulties. Perhaps there is something that can help you and your son.

Also, if it's possible, if I were you, I would try to see if you can any type of public assistance so you can get help for yourself also.

Please try to get help for your son, but don't forget to help yourself as well!
