I am thinking about going on meds for depression. I am already on meds for schizophrenia. I want a med I can stick with. I dont want to cycle through meds like I did with my meds for schizophrenia. What is the best choice? I am overweight and per-diabetic...

I am also overweight and pre-diabetic, I take Wellbutrin. It doesn't cause hunger pains like so many other drugs do. I really like it. Paxil made me hungry.

I would definitely recommend having this conversation with your doctor. When my doctor prescribed Effexor for me, one of the reasons he gave was that it is less likely to cause weight gain like some of the anti-depressants.

You also don't know the possible negative effects of mixing certain drugs.

For me...I had to try Paxil, Prozac, Wellbutrin, Effexor, etc, etc, etc...before I settled on Zoloft which appears to mostly work without a million side effects. Sadly, these meds are trial and error and you won't know what works for your brain until you get with your doctor and start trying some.
