Went yesterday, she asked a lot of questions and then said an associate of hers would be seeing me. I have another appointment next Wednesday so I expect it'll just be more questions. So when is an treatment plan put in place? Only negative thing I felt with the doctor I spoke with yesterday was her telling me if I had any thoughts of hurting myself to call a crisis center.

grey mouse, your first therapy session was a typical one. It's called "an intake." The therapist asks the patient a number of questions to get to know him/her. Every new therapist I've ever been to has done that. I doubt that the next session will be that way, though, since your information will get passed on. You and your therapist might talk about goals and expectations or things along that line. So, that will be like starting to get your treatment plan put in place.

I'm not sure why the doc was going to have you call a crisis center, if you needed help. That might be this place's standard policy or maybe the doc was going to be out of town or something!

Yep, that has been my experience with all new therapists. I've also been told to call a crisis centre if I was going to harm myself. The only thing that matters to me when it comes to therapy is the connection or lack thereof I feel with the therapist. They can be a genius, but if I don't trust them or don't believe a word they say, then forget about it.

Good luck!

As RJ says, the match between therapist and patient is very important. But give the therapist a chance! Sometimes it takes a few sessions to decide if the therapist is somebody you like and feel comfortable with.....

For the record, totally agree with Payne.
