Went to the doctor yesterday after waking up feeling like life is over for the hundredth time. I finally decided I needed to be on antidepressant again. The doctors office has three docs in it and its the only one I could afford to go to. Lucky me gets the doc that for two years chalked all my symptoms up to anxiety, here's some Xanax it will cure you of all that ails you. I told him how I was feeling more suicidal and I need help. Talked about antidepressants and my past reactions to them, zolof put me in hospital and out in left field for 5 months. So he says given my feelings and reservations about antidepressants that putting me on new one would probably not help because I had a negative attitude about them thus they wont help. . You would think that he would have tried to convince me otherwise given what I told him about how bad I was feeling. Then he starts talking about my Early Onset Parkinson's diagnosis from Neurologists he sent me to last year. His take on the whole subject was that depression can cause Parkinson's symptoms. Same doc that thought all my symptoms were from anxiety for two years. So hes trying to convince me that if your balance is off so much that you have fallen, that if you have ridgity and involuntary movements on one side that depression can cause these symptoms. Then he starts saying that Parkinson's can cause depression . No dopamine in brain, your not happy anymore, at leaste he got that one right. Then he says after I ask about getting back on Senimet for Parkinson he says to much Parkinson's med can cause depression. Omg is all I can say. Then he goes back to talking about antidepressants, Welbutran and how he thinks its the drug that will cure me but wont put me on it because of my reservations or negative feelings based on past experience with antidepressants. Just a note, I looked up Welbutan when I got home after this dizzining doc appt. There is a contridiction between Welbutran and Parkinson's drugs because Welbutran stimulates dopamine production and you can persay overdose on these two drugs together. . Omg. Who is the freaking nut case here! !!!!!!!! . The only good thing that came out of all of this is that he is referring me to therapist who might see me on sliding fee scale but because it is government funded place I'm sure hubbys unemployment income will probably make me not eligible, you have a penny in your pocket no help. Left his office with higher dose of Xanax and script for Senimet, Parkinson's med for four times a day. Now I know why I don't like doctors ...... I'm not suicidal today I'm amused and confused.

I have spent 30 years in the mental health system, finally found my medication that works good for me after 30 years. I have been on all meds available, went through the parkinsons- like symptoms from prolixin for 8 years. I always fought the doctors on their diagnosis, of which now i know they got it right as these meds are working, as I can tell in my behavior and ability to not deny there is illness there too. in the 1990's and 2000's they tested every kind of meds there were. i was in a few accidents, have seizures, etc... but am just happy now as the meds I'm on are working good so far I've been on Viibryd for over a year now, and am feeling much better. I hope this helps

Thank you. The thing with me is that I went to doctor for tremors in hands. Had no previous medical or mental issues, had not been on meds for anything. Even in the last three years I have not been on enough meds to cause parkinsonism symptoms. I went to neurologists to be checked for essential tremors but was diagnosed with Parkinson. I was totally bewildered at the info this doc was giving me yesterday. Every other sentence out of his mouth was a contradiction to the previous one. Maybe I should be consider my lucky I don't have insurance to go see these quacks to often, sometimes I think they are the root of some of my depression.

Oh good lord Triste!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry for you! Or maybe both! That doctor needs those meds more than any of us by the sounds of it, or maybe been partaking of the meds a little on the side! Certainly sounds like it! I'm gobsmacked! Here's hoping you get one that makes sense next time!

Love
