Does depression subside without treatment? I am depressed and have been for at least 3 consecutive years. I'm not on medication and probably won't be because I am not insured. I see myself getting more and more depressed by the day. I'm slowly losing my will to keep trying. I know why I'm depressed, and my reasons won't ever go away. They will be with me forever. So does this mean I won't ever overcome depression?

I believe that you can get through depression without medication or treatment. First, you should decide that you want to get better. Make yourself hopeful that you are going to get better, and do not give up. Then, I suggest that you exercise often, drink plenty of water, eat many fruits and vegetables and cut down on fats and sugars. Then, try to do something fun that is NEW. Also, find times to just lay in a hot bath and clear your thoughts. Try to do things that make you happy, and that do not bring up old memories. Visit a new place, try something new, and maybe even try to make a new friend, or visit someone who makes you happy, and does not bring up old memories. I am always here if you need to talk.

Thanks for your response and sharing your thoughts and advice.

I like how you mentioned to "do things that make you happy." This is what I definitely need to do, as it only takes one small thing to trigger an unpleasant memory from my past. Once this happens, it's downhill for hours and even days.

Thanks again for reaching out to me. I appreciate it.
