I am having the roughest time in a long time. I left my apartment, my furniture in it, all my clothes, and my kitty cat. All to get clean and sober. And am in a sober house and have to be leaving in 2 weeks. I have no where to go, am resigning from my job in the psyc/detox ward, as it does not help my mental health and I just found out I have very significant skin melanoma. So now what? Could use some prayers and hugs. All I can get. On the bright side, and the only silver lining, is that I am still clean and sober!

You've made a decision and you're following through; hang in there. I hope you can get prompt medical treatment for the melanoma.

Oh honey, bless your heart! Thank God you're still sober, but what is the plan of attack on the melanoma? How are they going to treat it?

There have been huge strides made in this -- so try not to be too scared. You've just got to find out everything you can about it -- research it, and find out what treatments they use so you can ask educated questions about the treatment they'll use, and so you know WHAT questions to ask.

Back in the 1970's when my son was 7 yrs old, he was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. That was back when they didn't know much of anything about leukemia. Because they prefer to see kids between the ages of 1 1/2 to 3 yrs old, they said he wasn't in a "good" age group -- he was "too old" and he didn't have a good chance of making it. He was put in an experimental treatment group, and he had chemo and radiation both for 3 years. We were told he was going to die, but they treated him anyway at the University of Michigan Mott's Childrens' Hospital. Well, in March he turned 43 yrs old!!!

HUGE strides have been made in cancer since those days!!! My son was lucky -- I prefer to think that God intervened, because all the children that started treatment at the same time he did, died.

So you have a GREAT chance of having GREAT results!! Just make sure you know the right questions to ask so that you can quell any fears you might have. But try not to worry, okay? And PLEASE keep us posted, will you? You're certainly in MY prayers, my friend! God bless and I'll be talking to you. Hugs, Lee
