Hey so I'm new here. I have been dealing with depression for as long as I can remember... I just... It's getting to the point that I don't know how to handle it anymore. I'm so depressed that it literally hurts to get out of bed. I have a part time job but in order to live at home (I'm only 19) my parents are making me work more hours. But it's like, I'm so depressed I can't do it... No one in my family knows I have depression. I still don't know how to tell them... And even if I did, my parents would just think I was making it up to get out of working. I'm really getting scared of my thoughts... I've been thinking about checking into a depression rehab but I'm not sure... Advice? Thoughts?

Yes, get some professional help - doctor, whatever you can. I don't know what "depression rehab" is, sorry.

Yes you need to see a dr. or a counselor. You need to have someone explain to you what is happening with yourself. Depression is a confusing disease with many symptoms. They can find someone for you to talk to and even prescribe medicines that will help you. You can even have them explain to your parents what is happening. You can get help and you can get better.
Keep posting here and read the information available on this site. It helps to understand what it is you are experiencing. Good luck |

I agree it would be a good idea to see a doctor. It's not as scary as it seems, they see depressed patients regularly. A doctor can refer you to a therapist or psychiatrist, one of the good things about that is that once diagnosed you can bring a family member to an appoinment with a therapist (or doctor or psychiatrist or counseler) who can help explain the situation to the family member as well, this can hopefully make your family more understanding of the situation.

I know a friend who secretly went to therapy and got treated over a few weeks. Her parents were not receptive at all. I feel really proud of her! She has shown great courage and has done the right thing.
