Awkward way for friend to find out

I was at dinner with a friend and dinner happens to be the time I take medication. She asked what I was taking. I could've lied, but I respect our friendship too much, so I told her it was lexapro, assuming she wouldn't know what the was. She didn't, but her mom asked, "Isn't that an anti-depressant?"

So now she knows. I was trying to work up the courage to tell her, but it never fit in my conversation. I guess this worked out okay in the end.

Well a good friend will be supportive about it.

How did the rest of the evening go? Did it feel strained?
Most people I've shared with have been awesome and supportive. Some even come out with a depression story themselves.

The rest of the evening went okay, but we didn't have a real talk about it then because I didn't want to do it in front of her parents. She seemed really worried about me though.

The same thing happened to me a few years back with my uncle and his girlfriend - his girlfriend was the one who knew what fluoxetine was.
It was a bit awkward to start with but later my uncle asked me a few questions and things got less uncomfortable when I explained a bit. He was worried to begin with but after talking a bit he went back to his joke-y self.
I think that it was more the unknowns that bothered him.

I don't think she will be focused on how she found out - seeming that worried about you, she will probably just want to be sure your ok. It will probably make your friendship stronger if anything

I still haven't had the nerve to tell too many people about my taking meds.

Yes, we actually sat down and had a talk today, and she seemed very accepting of my suicidal thoughts and SI. I really appreciate that she took it calmly.
