My therapist said it seems like I have "black and white" thinking. She said that people that suffers from depression sometimes think black and white. I did some research and I learned that other disorders think black and white.

I'm really confused. I'm depressed or have some other disorder that I don't know about?

did you ask your therapist? seems she could have answered that question, or she should have and should be capable.

Black and white thinking is common in borderline personality disorder, which depression is also common in. You could inquire about that.

If your only complaint though is depression, then you probably do have depression. If you weren't aware of your black and white thinking, then it's probably not too much of a problem for you. It's a problem where your black and white thinking interfere with your interpersonal abilities. If that sounds like you, then you should definitely ask your T about BPD.

I hope everything turns out alright!

You're right, I should ask my therapist. I don't want to come off as a hypochondriac.

Not only borderline!
ADHD - Black and white thinkers due to the frontal processes not functioning properly.
Thanks for this!

Therapists often confuse between different disorders since many share some of the exact symptoms in common.
Examples:
ADHD and BPD
Bipolar and ADHD
Depression and Bipolar
and many more.
Thanks for this!

Isn't this part of the unhelpful thinking styles?

http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/docs...g%20Styles.pdf

It could be that your therapist is saying that this contributes to your depression...

May i share personal story?

I was misdiagnosed with BPD because:
I have ADHD
I suffer from Major Depression
+ at the time I was suffering from extreme agitation and negative thinking, plus i was doing unreasonable and impulsive stuff....

I do not have BPD!

But that is just my own case.

You must follow your own path to the correct diagnosis.

Is there a thread where I can talk about impulses since it's making me feel so bad about myself.
