I just took this Depression Quiz on Psych Central: Psych Central - Depression Screening Test

It's a simple short test, and I realize it's not meant to be a professional diagnosis. I got a 66 which is considered severe depression. This surprises me as I don't think of my depression as being severe...more like a tolerable depression that never goes away and has been with me my whole life. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago with dysthymia, social anxiety disorder, and likely seasonal affective disorder. It does seem to be slightly stronger than normal in the past 3-4 months though.

Anyway, if others don't mind taking the quick test and reporting their survey results in this thread, I'd like to see how my score compares with other people here who are depressed. I know this doesn't really prove or disprove anything...it's just something I'm curious about as I've always wondered how my scores on these types of tests compare to others who are depressed. Thanks!!!

I take it frequently. It tends to differ depending on severity of my mood. I, also, have had really, really happy days (kind of like euphoric... but not as happy) since joining, so I actually have some where I scored low. Generally, I think I score in the severe range, though.

o.O

This time I got 83. THat's... actually the highest I've ever scored. That's kind of disheartening. I didn't even know the numbers could go that high on that one. But I have known that my depression has gotten just... terrible this past year. Severe, in any case.

Wow, thanks for the response, and I'm sorry you're feeling so bad.

I took it a week or so ago and I scored fairly high...which didn't surprise me. I've never managed to get to a doctor for an official diagnosis but I know its something I've dealt with for a long time.

I don't know how helpful or unhelpful it is to compare scores of a quiz like this, but I'm finding it interesting. I was surprised by my high score, but am even more surprised that some of you scored so much higher than me. I've been largely functional for years despite my depression clearly causing my life to suffer, but can only recall brief periods of my life where things were so bad that I could've scored significantly higher than I did today, and those were times when heating a bowl of soup in the microwave seemed like a full day of activity and I had to tell myself not to go outside because I was afraid of what I might end up doing to myself. I imagine this must be the normal day to day existence for many of you on this board and my heart truly goes out to you...I don't know where you find the strength to continue, but please keep trying.

Severe, 79. Not surprising though considering I just got out of a crisis...

So, my day hasn't been too bad today and I got a 52. I guess that means I'm still in the moderate/severe category on a good day, but it's nice to know that my score can be lower at times. Makes me wonder what it would feel like to score under 20....can't imagine I've been that low in 7-8 years or longer.

I think writing random stuff on this site has been helping and whether the st johns wort is placebo or not, I feel like after being on it for 2 months it might be helping my lows from being *so* low.
