Starting another Monday and week sucks! All I wanted to do this morning (and every morning) is to pull the covers over my head and go back to sleep.

I wish I could phone in sick every now and then...but what excuse do you use for feeling depressed? Are you honest and tell your boss what's wrong or do you make up a story? What excuses have you used for calling in sick for depression?

I have used the "migrane" excuse - saying it is not safe for me to drive (it effects my vision) and I have a 35 mile commute.

I've done the migraine one too, if asked. I just say I am not feeling well and won't be in.

migrain works for me as well. Although a former husband told me there was no reason I had to give a 'reason'. All the boss cares about is that you won't be in. Legally they aren't even allowed to ask WHY you're not coming in. Still....I always feel like I have to give a reason, even tho now, I know I don't have to.

Stomach bug used to be my go to reason. However, now i very rarely have days off sick. I am self-employed so if i dont work i dont get any £.
Also, i find that working actually helps me. The worst bit is getting out of bed, getting dressed and getting to work. Once i am there, it isn't so bad. And 99% of the time i am always glad i went.
Forcing myseelf to act cheerful and happy in front of people can actually work wonders!

I too just sometimes say "I won't be in today", depends. I do know people who have called in with "panic attack", but they are generally much younger than me; and when and where and how I grew up that was just not OK. Usually, I do force myself into work and it ends up being better once I am there, not always...

I did this last week, said my son wasn't feeling well. Needed the mental health day, but now I feel guilt that I didn't go, and disgusted with myself for not being able to function like a normal person.
