When you are depressed, do you listen to a specific genre or band for comfort?

I personally listen to Dave Mathews Band, or 10,000 Maniacs there music seems comforting to me. Anyone else?

I tend to listen to sadder music when I'm hitting a low. Although some of these are my favorite songs, there's no denying that they are sad.

Queen - Who Wants to Live Forever

The Doors - The End

When I'm feeling really low, I have a few songs that I listen to that make me cry - Wonderful by Everclear, Name by GooGoo Dolls.

When I'm feeling depressed and want to feel closer to T, I listen to Ts favorite bands.

I have a bunch of oldies I listen too. But unlike people who get comfort from music, I usually only listen to my music when I'm depressed and it often does not help, but possibly makes me more depressed. Weird, huh?

I listen to both of those frequently while depressed.
I don't have a specific band, I just go around to whatever mellow songs I can find.

I used to do that.

I tend to avoid depressive music as much as I can when I hit a dip... it's too emotive for me and can trigger further dips.

These days I try listening to classical or new age music... soothing and rhythmic tunes that I can focus on and in a way meditate my mind into a calmer state.

All kind of music: 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's
Also, world music, for example: French music (Zaz is my favorite, "Le long de la route" is my uplifting song; also the group Paris Combo, my favorite song is "Moi, mon âme, ma conscience")

I try to listen to upbeat music, but it doesn't always work.

Often, when depressed, I listen to Evanescence and Nirvana a lot more. There are a few specific Fun. songs I gravitate toward (All Alright being the main one).

I read this and have now listened to All Alright by Fun. for hours and hours on end. So upsetting.

One song I listen to only when I'm depressed is Better Son/Daughter by Rilo Kiley. It makes me think that maybe, someday, life will get better.

Something upbeat or very soulful. Something that the singer deeply feels (and it comes across in their music). IE: Blessings by Laura's Story.

And I have one that I go to when I am very dark and do not want to leave my darkness....... but I will not share that (cuz I do not want to trigger anyone).

I also love Dave Matthews Band, I just connect with their music, sometimes I like the "depressing songs" but they also have cheerful, hopeful songs that get me through the day sometimes...this song always puts me in a good mood-

I rarely go for sad music...I look for upbeat stuff. HOWEVER, and this is odd, when I am in the mood for a good cry, I will torture myself with sad youtube videos. I don't know why. It may be PMS related (sorry if it's TMI, but my daughter does too so maybe its just something we gotta do.) Like it helps get it out, somehow.

According to my DBT group leader...there have been psych studies that show that classical music is the best for depression & anxiety to help lessen the bad feelings

I like disco, funk, James Taylor, and surf sounds. All happy and bouncy. It usually takes me about an hour at least to change my mood.
