Could you please let me know?
I never seem to have a "usual" response to meds. I was prescribed Xanax for panic attacks. I had heard great things about it.....how I would feel better, really chilled out, mellow, nothing would bother me etc. My experience with my mom (who takes if for flying) is that she gets sleepy/dopey. Which I was looking forward to rather than the debilitating panic...... Anyway, I don't recall the dosage but I felt absolutely nothing. Nada. Zip. I was my normal self, panic included. It wasn't just me thinking this, my husband confirmed it. I was wondering how it affected those of you who take it..... |

I guess it depends on dosage, but I, also, do not respond tyically to certain meds.
I tried Xanax once. From what I recalled (there have been more than a few different Rx). I upped the dosage, but when that didn't work, I moved onto Clonapin (spelling?). That helped a bit, but put me in a fog/sleep. I couldn't panic, because I was BLANK... maybe drooled a bit. And (SCARY), but it is also, addictive. That combinded with the blank slate, freaked me out. I figured I had enough problems without complicating things further. What did help the panic attacks, the insomnia, the utter lack of appetite, the ABILITY to smile.... is some what controversial in certain circles. Medicinal (NOT recreational) marijuana. While I don't like to go out in public after smoking, I can still function after smoking. It's like hitting a puase on the panic attack. I get jarred from the overwhelming emotions long enough to get perspective. The problems/cause doesn't go away of course, but I can calm enough/distract myself long enough to be okay in finding a moment of peace. I wish you the best, and hope you can find what works for you. |

Xanax helps my anxiety and panic attacks. With that being said, I have to admit that it also makes me tired and dopey. It does, however, relax me and reduces the horrible physical symptoms of anxiety and panic.

I'm on clonazepam, which is a benzodiazepine like Xanax. I was briefly put on Xanax while hospitalized for a psychotic break, but for some reason it always made me vomit. I deal with clonazepam much better.

Well I've tried some Benzo... not remember their names. I think they are good for sleeping.issues...and doses do make a big diference. I self-medicate myself.with them. And when I thought it didn't had many effect on me. I try doubling doses. I.felt very dizzy in the after morning. I think that sometimes they work just because you believe they are going to work. Because they loose some of their effect over time. They are only good to people with acute anxiety...because of that.

It's a matter of what works for you. It may take trying different meds. I know it's difficult and we want that quick fix, but I know from experience it can take a while.
After my last hospitalization, my Dr sent me home without anything for my panic. I didn't last that day. I called her and we talked, and she agreed I needed to be on something. She started me out on a low dose and she gradually increased it until we found the right dose. I take regular doses of Xanax - 2mg at night and 0.5mg in the morning - and I can take additional doses if needed. But I make sure I let my Dr know when I'm doing that. Talk to your Dr. You may need to take a larger dose or try a different med. I know Xanax is addictive, but I need to take care of me now. When/If it comes time to reduce or come off Xanax I will be in a better place and better able to handle it. I also know that my Dr will be there helping me. Good Luck. |

Depends on the dosage. I am very sensitive to meds, so for me, I have .25 mg of xanax, and I can take up to 4 pills as needed (totaling 1mg) I often start with 1/4-1/2 of a .25 mg pill and that takes me down. I've only needed to take a full mg a few times, and that totally knocks me out.
