For the past several months I have been having trouble getting food past my esophagus, I looked it up and the most common problem is rings on the esophagus. About a week ago I had to go because I could not get the food down, this is past the airway so I had no real problem breathing but it felt like someone had shoved a fist behind my rib cage. While there they noticed some other problems (swollen lymph nodes, thin blood, cuts not healing), the doctor brought up esophageal cancer as a possibility. I don't have insurance and the emergency room couldn't do much so she gave me some paperwork to fill out for assistance and wanted me to set an appointment there the following week to see a specialist. I still haven't, my brother told me I was just afraid of finding cancer so I was putting it off. That really isn't the situation, I'm afraid I won't have cancer. First off I know it is just rings, all logic points to that as that is the most common problem, I just see this as being a way to finally have an end. I know that sounds really stupid but I have prayed for a long time to be in a car accident or some other accident where I would end without me doing anything. I'm so messed up right now I don't know what to do anymore I have barely gotten of the couch all week, I can barely eat anymore so I'm on a basically liquid diet, food was one of my last joys.

Life keeps taking things away from you (from us)...
It might sound "stupid" to some, but not to others.

I hear you Martek - I've had thoughts like that often, too.

Thing is, if you take care of your health it helps point you in a more hopeful direction, especially as you get more used to making positive choices for yourself. It takes effort, but ultimately it pays off. (I realize avoidance pays off immediately, though the payoff is smaller.)

Your situation is a disturbing thing to deal with, either way.

I am so sorry you are having this problem with your esophagus! It is not silly wanting to have an grave illness. You are suffering a lot and you want to end your suffering. Is it possible for the doctor that see you about your esophagus to get help for your depression?
