A year ago I went through a treatment called TMS. Trans cranial magnetic stimulation. It is based on the new brain imaging research and the link between the pre frontal cortex and the limbic system being whacked. The pdoc I saw was sold on it. He was also anti med and pro supplement. I went through six weeks of treatment three times a week for an hour at a time. They align the machine to a very exact spot on your head and shoot strong magnetic pulses through your brain. He took me off my meds and told me to get fish oil, vitamin D, Sam-E, and one called Deplin (L methyl folate). The deplin had to be prescribed. I guess there is some positive research on deplin. There are clinical trials going on at very respected research hospitals such as Mao. Some pdocs have bought the equipment and are using it. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I ended up going back to a regular med regime. Right after I went into the worst depression I have ever had. That could be because he took me off my meds pretty quick I dunno. I have very cyclical depression and they have to run their cycles. I come out of them like a switch goes off in my brain and I am totally fine. I have heard that TMS doesn't work on cyclical depression.
I put it out there because there is ongoing research and new treatments becoming available. Just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for others. we have to see what the research says on how effective it is. I will post some links
