Rain has always had a mood altering effect on me. It has been raining nearly non stop where I live for the last couple of days. In a way it is good because I do not feel like I am a nervous jack russel about to pee on the carpet, but on the other hand if it last more than a day it just causes my mood to plumet. It numbs nd blunts everything.

Anyone else experience this?

Same here, very powerful mood enhancer/detractor. It rains so little where I live that it is special each time and best when I am home to enjoy it and not having to run around town in it to get shopping and chores done.
Rain: great for my anxiety, terrible for my depression

Yes Curupira, I definitely agree. I have a love/hate relationship with rain. Sometimes, for me, it can be calming, smells amazing, & quite beautiful. When I'm in more depressive moods, it's annoying, the gray sky makes me sadder, & I just want it to stop, lol!

Absolutely. I live in the northern California valley, so we gets LOTS of warm and hot sun, but not too much rain. I love the rain because it is so calming. If it lasts more than a day, though depression starts to creep in. Or crash in.

It does affect my mood because it nearly never rains here (except during the 'monsoon season' but even then it's a c**p shoot, pardon the blatant vegas reference. When it does rain, people come out of their homes to watch it, to walk in it....sometimes to dance in it---yes I've seen people try to do the 'singing in the rain' dance complete with umbrella. It makes you realize how stark it is in the desert when it finally rains.

Since it rarely does, and since the sound is so soothing, I have a site I go to in the evenings sometimes 'rainymood.com..the cool thing about it, is you hear the sound of a thunderstorm with rain but you can still play music on your computer. I like listening to ed sheeran with the overlay of a rainstorm...it's so very calming. Birdy is also lovely with the rain.

Cold soothes me. I'm always hot, but cold is very grounding to me. I live in Western Europe, in a "temperate oceanic" climate which is kind of fortunate, although I still think it's too hot.

When I want to calm down before bed I go outside in a t-shirt even if it's January (and/or raining), and if I'm panicking or very confused I have the tendency to strip. Not too bad - I always stay decent, but everything that can go goes.

If it is possible to run naked in the rain, this is a good thing...it feels good...helps the depression, washes the senses...
or, let it soak through the clothes...
Sometimes, I find a walk in the rain with umbrella does help the sadness as well as the anxiety. ...water is powerful stuff...so much a part of us.

It rains a lot here in Ireland, but it can take its toll on your mind especially. Most of my friends agree with me when I say that we live in a temperate climate so although we get a lot of rain we dont get tornados, earthquakes etc so what I am trying to say is that we have to make the best of our climate. Take care of yourself.

Lack of sunlight does have clinically proven effects on people. SAD is a good example. I've read once that calcium can help anxiety or was that insomnia?
Today, is the third sunny day, here, since March 25. I've only been counting, as when i went to pretrial on March 26th, judge made a comment about how we'd all like to live someplace warmer. Point clearly stated in my case, is for arid, sunshine, moderate temp environment change, as vitamin d, found in natural sunlight, can repair myelin sheath, which mine is damaged due to neurological illness. My illness affects depression/anxiety. So, yes, less sunshine affects my mood, humidity affects my body.

Hmmm, last time we had a thunderstorm I got out of bed in the middle of the night and danced in it in my underwear! Defo has an effect on me but then again I'm easily influenced haha! Xx

Before a thunderstorm I'll be headachy and tired, during a storm I'll be jumpy and nervous and after a storm I'm plain exhausted but I love the freshness. We have way too much rain in the UK and I live in the east which is drier than the west. Generally, we have lots of different weather, but most of it is fairly benign. My preference is for cold, sunny, frosty mornings in the winter. In the summer I like a cooling breeze and overnight showers. In the autumn, I love misty mornings and hot afternoons. Spring has to be sunshine and showers. I don't care for snow, fog, heavy rain, grey days, wind. Dull weather depresses me, we have a kind of cloudy, high pressure weather called anti-cyclonic gloom - yep I'd agree with that.

I've lived in both the tropics and the desert, so I feel rather unaffected by weather...but I know what you mean about those blah grey days. I try to enjoy it all, whether it is sunny, rainy, or windy. I find that it is not the weather that gets me down; but staying inside the house all day does. Just going outside and doing something tends to help lift the mood...have you ever tried racing popsicle sticks on streams of rainwater? Ever take pictures of the rain, or trees covered in raindrops, or watch the lightning or the clouds tumbling over each other in the sky? Maybe try finding something fun to do while it's raining. Don't let the idea of getting wet keep you from going outside!

Hope it helps!
