Why is it so wrong to want to commit suicide? This isn't a "why should I want to live" post, but rather why is it so wrong to think about suicide. Maybe they sound the same, but for some reason, in my head, they are two separate things. If someone is so willing to die, why should we not let them?

Hello DarkTangles, welcome to Psych Central.

Good question. I think it is the fact that there are usually loved ones somewhere along the line that will be left with the fallout. How do you think your family or friends would feel about it? That reason is probably what stops a lot of people.

Exactly as Pegasus said. I'm still annoyed with myself that I was so suicidal some yonks ago; I was being incredibly selfish. It took being on the other end of the stick to come to my senses. (or at least some of them xD)

There's also the religious part of it, ... some believe--for some reason I can't fathom--that those who commit suicide end up going to hell. ¬_¬

There are people out there, dying from horrible diseases and stuff, ... life is precious, ... I don't think it's fair to just throw your life away like that. I say live, for those that can't. No matter how crappy things are, try to think of the stuff worth living for, like the sound of birds chirping, love, all the new things that get invented, music, art, etc. What about the people who fought for our freedom in the war? They died so we can live. We have to fight. We are a strong race. If you don't feel strong enough, get yourself the best help you can, ... find strength from somewhere. As I said, life is very precious. I know some cases can be so extreme that it's kind of hard to see the light, ... I can't speak for them, although I'd say fight for the day when things are better.

ALWAYS FIGHT. Never give up.
