I hate interacting with people (face to face). All I can hear when they're standing there talking to me is the blood rushing in my ears, the rapid beating of my heart, and my head swimming. I can chat all day via text or online, but face to face...not so much! I freeze up or stutter my way through the conversation.
Oddly though, I love to 'people watch'. I just can't handle direct contact. I love going to the park and sitting on a bench watching others interact. It fascinates me. They make it look so effortless. There's really no point to this post. Just feeling a bit overwhelmed because I need to go take care of some things that are going to involve some interaction and I'm delaying... |

I'm not a people's person either. Like you said, I can talk to people online or via text for hours but I can't do that in person. My mind goes blank and I can't think of anything to talk about but when I do have something say I hesitate, I blush and my heart beats a little faster. But it's more of an awkward situation because I always find myself just standing there with someone in silence and then they never talk to me again. The blushing, heart racing and dizziness occurs more often when I need to ask a question at the store, when I'm paying for something at the store or giving a speech or just talking to a group of people, talking on the phone, etc. Usually when I'm in a group and everyone is talking, I'm the one listening. I always do the listening or the observing. I'm seeing a therapist and I hope she can help me with my social skills. Are you seeing anyone?

Like you, I am not a people person. Even in T I kind of keep quiet and let T do most of the talking. Same trait as you - I love to observe people! I remember working in a line that had me interacting with average 40 people in a day (not including my 20+ colleagues!) and I dreaded every day of work.
Maybe it's just part of being an introvert (if you consider yourself one)? Hope you'll find strength to take care of the things you need. __________________ "The is no better exercise for the human heart than reaching and lifting others up." - John Holmes herethennow: This ward is a prison! dx: recurrent MDD.

I am a people person and I get that way sometimes. And I know how horrible it can be and I care. Sometimes I don't hear what people say because I'm concentrating so hard on appearing normal.
