Does anyone else have sleep disturbances that don't seem to be directly related to their emotions (depression, anxiety, etc.)? I wake a lot at night...I've been trying to make myself go to bed at 10 every night to keep in the habit of good sleep patterns. I wake up so many times every night, I'm still exhausted when I get up in the morning. And I don't wake with depressed or anxious thoughts throughout the night...just waking, moving and trying to go back to sleep.
My arms lose circulation easily, and for weeks that's been what I thought was waking me. A couple of nights ago I took a muscle relaxer, and I finally slept all through the night - my husband (who moves a lot in his sleep) fell asleep in the living room and I don't think he woke & came to bed until early morning. That may have been a part of it. Thinking it was the meds, though, I took a half dose last night. I woke over and over, but never from my arms tingling. There doesn't seem to be a reason, unless my husband was moving around a lot. He came to bed middle of night sometime...I woke be before and after he was there - and I don't remember him moving much. ARGH! I can't figure it out and I am desperate to get back to sleeping normally. It's been months of this! Maybe even a year or more...I didn't really track when it started. Is physical insomnia (not from too many thoughts/emotions) part of depression? |

Hi NoIdeaWhatToDo, I am in a severe depressive episode right now, and my sleep is horrible. For example, last night I only slept from about 9:30 - 2 a.m. Once I woke up at 2:00 a.m. I absolutely could not get back to sleep - - and I take sleep meds! So that's only 4-1/2 hours of sleep! Amazingly, I dn't feel sleepy today. It's not like I'm thinking about anything either that would prevent me from going back to sleep. My body just will not sleep!
Good luck getting improved sleep. I know how awful it is when sleep is not good. |

Insomnia has definitely been a part of my depression. I think that's the reason why the symptoms of this horrible illness include changes in sleep patterns, and it's usually the extremes ~ either hypersomnia or insomnia. I agree with newgal2 in that it is awful when sleep is not good. Right now my insomnia is not too bad, but I sleep without feeling really rested when I get up for the day...

I'm wiped out all day - even the night I slept almost straight through...I got up the next morning, got the kids off to school/camp, came home, and felt like falling asleep on the couch. It was all I could do to eventually get off the couch 5 hours later and drive back to pick the kids up again.

I wish you the best of luck. I have been suffering with sleeping problems for years. I know my chronotype is a night owl so contributes. I always have to take something to force myself to sleep as natural remedies do not work. Does anyone find the natural remedies to work for them?
