THE OLD GUITAR – by Born2Fly71
This heart is like an old guitar, It’s battered and it’s bruised The strings are stretched and out of tune, But it plays a song of you The wood is dull and worse for ware, It strums a song of pain Its strap is torn and faded, Because you left it in the rain This old guitar played such sweet songs, Near camp fires by the sea But the camping trip you’ll take it on, Will see it’s music bleed. If the song it plays will make you cry, Just leave it in its case For it will be protected, And it will not go to waste My heart is like an old guitar, Its sound is out of tune But every time it plays a song, It plays a song of you My heart is like an old guitar, Its frets and pickups gone Its tuning keys are broken, For it’s playing its last song And if you love this old guitar, Then play a song of joy And please respect this old guitar, For it is not a toy The strings are worn and broken, Its songs are not so new But if you play and care for it Its sweet song is of you This old guitar it loves you, Its heart is of a man Who wants to be included, In your up and coming band But if you treat this old guitar, So bad and without care It’s played the last song it can play for you, And it will never play again
