Sometimes I wish something bad would just happen in my life so that I have a reason to be sad...

I think this is common. It just does not make sense to feel sad for no reason, especially to other people. At least if you have an excuse (death of a loved one for example), people are more likely to understand and sympathize and it's easier for you, yourself to deal as you know that eventually things will get better.

Feeling sad means feeling sad, whatever the reason. Wish I had something good to tell you but I send you my love and hugs.

Hello, Beanbag0. Have you talked to your treatment team about this?

I don't have a treatment team...

I totally get where you are coming from. People who don't have depression don't get why we are sad. If we had a reason that they understood then maybe we would get sympathy for struggling with an illness.

I understand this thought process as well. It is more easily understood by others if there is a specific reason or event that would have made us depressed. Instead of it just being depression. Hugs.
