I just got out of a huge jam by borrowing money from my boss (As many of you already are aware of), but the condition is that I get going this month and work like crazy. Working like crazy for me only involves nine simple days of framing. It's not the minus 20 that keeps me from going, it's the constant excuses. My mind comes up with some many reasons to not go. Does anyone have tricks they use to fool their mind into going? My only solution is not a very good one, as it destroys my body. Not really willing to share about that yet. Any advice may help, so please reply with whatever is on your mind.

Forsaken,

it isnt your mind that keeps you from going. it is the depression. it takes control of us and tricks us into thinking it is our true selves that come up with these excuses. we are fooled by depression.

the only trick i can suggest is to set yourself goals and to share them with people, and work towards them witht he help of the people you told. they can encourage you to carry on when it gets hard going. and it will feel like you have to achieve more in order not to let these people down. set simple goals to begin with, nothing heavy. and make sure you succeed them. surpress the excuses and the feeling of wanting to give up. this will feed the depressiona nd suffocate our true minds.

set yourself a scheme where you congratulate yourself after achiving these goals. whether it be buying a new piece of clothing, or a chocolate bar. or even just to smile and feel proud of yourself for achieving your goal. anythign that makes you happy and something you can look forward to, but something you will only do IF you achieve the goal. and if you fail to achieve a certain goal, comfort yourself in the knowledge that you failed trying your hardest, not that you just failed. and then set yourself an easier goal, something you know you will achieve with a little effort and work.

set yourselg a daily goal to go to wrok, and plan things for the evenign to come home to, something nice and relaxing...like an extended bath with aromatherapy salts etc. somethign to look forward to coming home to.

have a little brainstorm soon and come up with things you enjoy doing but ONLY allow yourself to have/do them when you achieve your goal.

let us know what your goals are, that way we can help motivate you when you feel things are too much.

speak soon, and i hope this helps.

I know this feeling! I can't imagine "the whole picture" of some days, so to get through them I do "trick" my mind.

I divide the process up into small steps. You know? I don't feel well enough to get up out of bed and go... but often have to get to, say, physical therapy as I will only get worse if I don't go...

So... I think, ok, first I will just get up... and that's all I agree to do.

Once I'm up... then I say, ok, I'll eat breakfast (or get dressed) with no idea of doing anything beyond that.

BUT as I complete each step, I say I'll try the next one. I focus ONLY on the next step, with an allowance that I can stop at any time... and NOT to look too far ahead, as it often is overwhelming!
