I am sorry that you cannot sing. Maybe humming is a good place to start.

Since I've realized how much less I've been singing since in the throes of my current depressive episode, which has been well over a year long, I'm really bothered by it.

I just added it to a list of reminders I'm making, that I plan to start referring to every day. "Have you sung today?" Because it's really like therapy for me.

As far as struggling to get started, as you describe, is there a particular place where you tend to feel particularly comfortable singing? Particular time of day it has brought you the most pleasure in the past? In the shower works really well for me.

I was asked to stop singing by a teacher. Taught me a good lesson.

Singing is good for you esp if share that with others. Its a good way to express yourself and can help to feel uplifted if you sing songs that are joyful, soulful or can be calming .

Have you ever tried writing your own lyrics? I found myself to be a prolific lyricist when depressed, even if everything I wrote was kind of dark.

I wrote that while depressed. It feels better to get the feelings out, rather than sit inside them.

Have written songs and poems which I kept in notebooks in past. I'm more into singing now. It doesn't matter if you sing melodic sad songs but if you can sing songs that make you feel uplifted and that you like/enjoy that's great. I have been part of choirs and a few music jams. I've got a place in choir starting in the Autumn.

I can say I have a good singing voice whatever mood I'm in cos its natural talent. I can still sing when in depressive place and it helps me.
