I have a very hard time verbalizing and talking about things, as many do. My therapist thinks EMDR is a good choice for many reasons in addition to my difficulty talking about things. I agree with her, based on what I know about EMDR. There is no doubt about her knowledge or training; it's solid. The doubt I'm having is in my ability to report accurately what comes to mind, and my ignorance to what impact that could have on the treatment. I would never make up anything, but I fear that I may be ashamed or embarrassed by what comes to mind, and not be able to say it. My thought is to go forward, and just see what happens, and perhaps it will get easier as it goes. But, if there is a chance this could have a negative impact on things, then I suppose I should think of a more skillful way of dealing with this. Any insight would be helpful.

I am not familiar with it. I think I would go for it if I were you as long as you have a well qualified therapist. If you tell her the concerns you have posted here a treatment plan could be made up to suit your specific needs. Like go slow.

Hey,

In EMDR it's important that you not push away/repress the memories, thoughts and feelings that come up, but you don't have to report or describe them. You can be as vague as you want. Although I generally try to be as accurate as possible, because for me that's also exposure, sometimes I just can't voice them. And that's OK, as long as I focus on them.
